Introducing the Clean Wave™
Low-Profile Non-Contact Automatic Door Switch

Optex Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, President & CEO: Toru Kamimura, hereinafter “Optex”) launched the Clean Wave™ non-contact switch on February 26, 2024. This switch can be used to open or close automatic doors simply by waving your hand at the switch with no physical contact required. Clean Wave™ was designed as an ideal solution for converting existing switches to non-contact switches to improve hygiene in food factories and hospitals as well as offices and other locations.

Background of the development

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, various measures adopted to prevent infections have become standard even after the disease’s reclassification to Class 5 under the Act on the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Medical Care for Patients with Infectious Diseases. Optex has expanded its lineup of non-contact switches in anticipation of continued demand for post-pandemic designs going forward.

Anticipating a wide range of applications, Optex designed Clean Wave™ to be usable in general-purpose recessed switch boxes while also offering improved environmental resistance.

Main features of Clean Wave™

1. Non-contact design with a wide range of LED action settings

Despite its compact size for installation in switch boxes, Clean Wave™ features LEDs extending up and down the face of the product. Holding a hand over the switch displays an action that evokes the image of the door opening or closing (default setting). The icon on the switch also makes it clear the door can be opened or closed using the back of the hand with no need to actually touch the switch.

The detection distance can also be set to between 100 and 500mm.

2. Optex’s thinnest non-contact switch to date

A Clean Wave™ switch extends just 7.5 mm from the wall with embedded wiring, and only 20.5 mm* when using an exposed box. The stylish shape also helps minimize adhesion of dust and dirt while allowing for easy cleaning simply by wiping the surface. The design also minimizes the risk of damage due to contact with carts or items being transported.
* When using Optex’s recommended exposed box.

3. Environmentally resistant to withstand both routine cleaning and freezing temperatures

Detection is stable even in humid environments and environments prone to condensation. The dustproof and waterproof design (IP55) allows for cleaning with large amounts of water.

With an operating temperature range of −35°C to +55°C, Clean Wave™ can be used safely even in frozen food warehouses.
