Product launch: OFM-111S 3-axis tilt sensor with built-in communication capabilities

~ Monitor tilting, collapse, deformation, and impact remotely ~

Optex Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, President & CEO: Toru Kamimura, hereinafter “Optex”) has launched the OFM-111S, a 3-axis tilt sensor with built-in communication capabilities, on April 27, 2022.

Optex is in the business of providing simple monitoring solutions to support the digital transformation of companies and local governments. OFM-111S—a new addition to our product lineup—detects tilting and vibrations in facilities and sends you notifications, helping you improve operational efficiency through remote monitoring and respond faster to abnormal conditions.

■ Background of the development

Disasters are intensifying and facilities are aging. Against this backdrop, in our effort to create a safe and secure society, Optex has been offering digital transformation solutions that keep a safe watch over facilities and equipment. In 2021, we launched a flood sensor that provides early warning of impending floods, and it has been adopted by local governments and other organizations.

We developed the OFM-111S tilt sensor to enable remote monitoring of critical infrastructure, such as national power transmission networks and radio networks, and transportation networks that are surrounded by slopes.

■ Features of OFM-111S

1. Turn it on to start communication immediately: an all-in-one packaging

The 3-axis sensor detects tilting, vibrations, and impacts. Its built-in wireless unit and battery allow you to simply turn it on to start monitoring effortlessly.
(Note: A separate cloud system is required to visualize the information. The cloud system is available from Optex.)

2. Cost reduction to realize multi-point monitoring

Only functions that are absolutely necessary for actual on-site monitoring pass our rigorous selection process, keeping costs low. OFM-111S allows multi-point monitoring, which is important for remote monitoring.

3. Identify abnormal conditions and respond quickly: event-driven function

OFM-111S issues continuous alerts when vibrations or impacts exceed the threshold. The person in charge receives updates once every minute by email or by other means.

4. Compact design for easy installation

■ Application examples

Intended use cases

OFM-111S allows you to significantly reduce routine patrolling over long distances and at multiple locations. In addition, because it can easily detect vehicle collisions and abnormal conditions from natural disasters such as typhoons, heavy rain, and snowfall, OFM-111S helps you to respond quickly to mitigate damage, such as by shutting down facilities and closing off traffic.
